Unfortunately, addiction treatment programs don’t always work. This leaves people wondering what to do next. Should they go back to the same rehab facility for further care? Should they try a different treatment center or a different method? Is the situation hopeless?

It is often the case that an individual needs to get help more than once, but it is absolutely possible to recover even if the first attempt wasn’t successful. This is especially true if the individual suffered from alcoholism or drug addiction for a long period of time before getting help. There are many reasons why treatment might not work, and there are a number of things to try in the future.

The addiction treatment program may not have been quite right. Different methods work better for different addicts. Sometimes it’s difficult to tell whether something is effective until the individual is back out of rehab and faced with a challenge. It may be that a different facility would be a better match. Perhaps the treatment program wasn’t long or intense enough. The professionals who worked at the previous rehab center might be able to help with this decision. They probably have some insight into whether the individual worked well in that program.

The addict should think about the time they were in addiction treatment. They need to figure out which parts of it worked well for them and which parts didn’t. For example, they might have preferred individual counseling sessions and felt that group therapy didn’t help them. There are many factors of alcohol and drug treatment to consider. Use this information to make the next program more effective, and don’t think of the first one as a waste of time. Don’t give up hope. Even if it doesn’t work again the next time, keep trying to improve the treatment plan.
