One of the common traps that patients fall into in addiction treatment programs is sabotaging their own success. At some point, you have to begin to believe that you deserve a better life in order for rehab to work.

If you continue telling yourself that you’re a terrible person, dwelling on past mistakes, and not trusting yourself enough to avoid relapse, guess what—you will probably relapse.Once you go through detox and most of the toxins left over from drug and alcohol abuse are gone from your body, addiction recovery is largely a psychological effort. The thoughts that you repeat to yourself over and over in your head have an enormous effect on your eventual actions, whether you realize it or not. Avoid setting yourself up for failure by repeating these negative thoughts about yourself and your addiction. In order to make progress and overcome this situation, you have to first believe that you can.

Many addicts think that they are not worth success. Your addiction likely lead to a number of problems in your life and caused pain for those people you care about most. Regardless of what has happened in the past, you deserve the best possible life for yourself. Not only that, but you have the power to make the changes that will allow you to accomplish what you want in addiction treatment. If you tell yourself that you will fail, you probably will. However, if you believe that you can be successful and that you deserve the good things in life, this can happen too. Anyone who puts forth the great amount of effort that is required in addiction treatment deserves to be happy and fulfilled. It’s as simple as that. Avoid sabotaging yourself so that you can experience all the great things you’re capable of.
