While the changes you make are lifetime changes, you only have to make them for today. Just as 12-step groups say: “one day at a time.” When some people hear they need to make changes they get a little excited but they also get a little scared. Change is the unknown and we all feel a little nervous facing the unknown. It is good to know that you can make these changes only for today and that they will have a lasting affect on your life. That they can have the ability to change your life.
Drug addiction takes away so many of your life’s decisions. It takes away your joy, passion, enthusiasm and motivation. Once you release the drug abuse, you will find your joy, passion, enthusiasm and motivation for life start to perk up again. Things that used to interest you — hobbies, friends, and activities will interest you again. You will have an increased interest in doing new things. You sense of self-confidence and self-worth will be strong — as you know you have faced your demons and battled them. Beating substance abuse is something that you know you can do with a little help. Being open to making changes is important when it comes to battling drug abuse.
