First of all, let’s see what drug abuse intervention means. The simple meaning of drug abuse intervention means to constructively participate in the treatment of a drug addict by morally encouraging them to sign up for the treatment and to continue it till they are fully recovered. You can intervene in someone’s treatment on your own accord, but the best way to do it is to use professional help.

Professional experts that guide you on how to intervene in a person’s drug addiction treatment program are called as interventionists. When you are intervening, you can either work singly or as part of a group. If you work as a single person, it will be very tough going, because you have to be responsible for several things about the treatment of the person. Though some interventionists allow for single person intervention, it is generally not a good idea.

The best thing to do is to intervene as a part of a group. In that way, the responsibilities are shared. A group intervention has better effects on the patient too, because he or she realizes that there are a lot of people out there wanting him or her back. The intervening group of people will be the people the patient is closely associated with, such as family members, friends, colleagues and coworkers, etc. These will be the people who will ably exhort the person to seek treatment for drug addiction because they love him or her and want them back.

Ideally, there must be a group of at least three people to participate in a drug intervention program. The maximum limit of people can be eight, though it is always better if there are a lot of people showing their love and affection to the addict.
