Overcoming drugs is not an easy thing. Drug addicts who are left to their own devices will never be able to come out of this habit themselves. Support is needed from friends and family to come out of addiction and also to ensure that relapses do not occur. The treatment program for drug abuse that goes by the name of the Matrix Model uses all these points to bring a drug addict back to a permanent life.
The best part of the Matrix Model is that it uses several devices to treat and counsel the patient. A major part of it is drug education which is provided not just to the patient but to the whole family that is responsible to the patient and other people who have participated in the intervention program. For this reason, this treatment program becomes very economical for families that have more than one member with drug addiction.
A very significant aspect with the Matrix Model is that the therapist will build a close bond with the patient. The principle is that a person leans more on an expert that he or she trusts. Therapists will consciously work at building this trust factor. In fact, that is what the initial few sessions will be all about. Meeting with the family and friends is only a ploy to know the patient better and make him or her feel more relaxed with the therapist. Once this bond is forged, the therapist can work at effectively encouraging the patient about the treatment.
The Matrix Model of drug abuse treatment does not stop at the person’s avowal to stay away from the drug. The program will follow the patient for a long time after the initial treatment and monitor him or her so that there’s no relapse. Relapse prevention therapy is a subset of the entire Matrix Model.
