It is quite an understatement to say that Alaska has a drinking problem. The gory side of this scenario is that the alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse in Alaska is consuming an increasingly younger population with each passing year.
The thing that is making the situation more grievous is that some children as young as 10 years in Alaska are now into severe alcohol addiction which may need treatment at an alcohol rehab center. The following are some statistics that will help you understand how grave this situation actually is:-1. Alaska wasted 316.5 million dollars in the year 2005 for crimes that were related to underage drinking. Newer figures aren’t revealed yet, but this figure is enough to send chills down the spine. The crimes that these youth committed under the influence of alcohol included arson, DUI, promiscuous acts in which children from ages 14 to 20 were involved, damages to property, fetal alcohol syndrome caused in mothers of ages 15 to 20 who were alcoholics and many more.
2. A staggering portion of the above sum was spent in the treatment required to these youth due to their alcohol addiction. This amount was pegged at 17.5 million dollars, but could be much more.
3. 11% of all the people who get admitted for drug and alcohol addiction treatment in Alaska are children. These children are in the age group of 12 to 20 years.
4. Children who begin an alcohol abuse in Alaska by the age of 15 years are 400% more likely to become totally compulsively dependent on alcohol than the adults who start alcohol drinking after the age of 21 years.
